COOKING CLASS IN MARGARITES

What about a tour that combines history and tradition? Learn everything about our famous pottery tradition and dive into the Cretan world of cooking.

Itinerary

We will start our tour by visiting a unique pottery workshop in Margarites. "Keramion” is a modern pottery workshop in Crete  which operates under the supervision of an experienced potter, who with passion, love, and following the tradition, creates real works of art. It is no coincidence that the laboratory is in “Margarites” village, a special place with a rich tradition in pottery.

With techniques of Neolithic period origin combined with modern touches, he creates handmade utilitarian pottery, connecting tradition with modern lifestyle. We will watch a 15' minute demonstration of this unique occupation.

Our arrival at Xenia's house will be after a 10' drive.

We will be welcomed by our lady cook, by having the first glass of raki for the day.

Mrs. Xenia, our lovely cook, will be waiting for us in order to start the traditional Cretan cooking class. Suit up and be impressed by the quality of our organic products. You will use products literally picked up from the backyard of Mrs. Xenia's garden and you will learn how to make a delicious Cretan salad, the classic tzatziki,fava beans, fried zucchini balls meat balls and her famous kallitsounia with onions with hand made phyllo dough.

After the cooking ends, lunch follows with the main dish prepared in advance by Mrs. Despoina. The main dish usually varies from rabbit stifado to pork with celery or from lamb in tomato sauce to chicken stew with gamo-pilafo, typical dishes in every Cretan household.

 

All this of course with unlimited raki, local wine (red or white) and...food stories.  The dessert will by the typical of the Cretan diet, meaning fresh fruit , yogurt with honey or traditional sweet.​
