Every Stop a Unique Experience

1st Stop

A refreshing walk in ancient Onithe

The tour starts by visiting the ancient town of Onithe. The first stop while ascending the road from the village of Goulediana to Onithe will be the chapel of Panagia Eleousa. Built on the west side of the road, at the neck of the plateau, the chapel consecrates and demarcates with its presence the territory of Onithe. Just on the other site of the temple, on the east side of the road, there is a built in fountain. The date engraved on the front, informs us that it was built in 1945. Continue ascending the route towards the mountains, and you will find yourself refreshed from the clear air of the area; if you’re lucky enough, you will get to see a flock of sheep and its shepherd!

After that, we will return to the tavern, to start our cooking class. We will end up at the square of the village, where the first glass of raki for the day will help us prepare for the cooking class. Mr. Kostas, our cook, will be waiting in order to start the advanced Cretan cooking class. You will enter in his kitchen, where you will get to see all of his equipment and tools. He will teach you the twists you can do in every traditional Cretan dish, so that you will be able yourself to add gastronomical “cheats” yourself, while cooking traditional cuisine! Mr. Kostas himself transfers the modern cooking methods in the authentic recipes of his grandmother, Sofia. Suit up and be impressed by the quality of the products; everything you use will be organic and handpicked from their garden. You will get to cook traditional dishes, like “keftedes” or “ntakos” but you will also have the chance to try more special plates of the Cretan cuisine.

3rd Stop

Time to taste what we've made!

After the cooking ends, lunch follows with the main dish prepared in advance by our cook and his sister. Enjoy the idealized combinations, in balanced doses, of products and recipes of local Cretan cuisine that give unexpected gourmet delights in a warm atmosphere. Sometimes words can't deliver reality: you have to try it yourself! All this of course with unlimited raki, local wine (red or white) and food stories. To finish your meal, enjoy a typical dessert of the Cretan diet, or something different, like twisted Cretan “cheesecake”!
